Glastonbury Festival gets new license that runs till 2024

The popular Glastonbury Music Festival has been handed a new ten year license. Mendip District Council declared that they have made the decision without the need for a scrutiny in a public hearing. In fact, there was no opposition to their licence, which would run up to the year 2024 and would allow them to offer more interesting acts.

Lily Allen, Dolly Parton and Blondie are among stars who have earlier stated that they would play at  the music festival this year that begins on 25th June. The number of passes for acts as well as staff might rise by 25500 to 63000 by the year 2024.

Festival organizers have stated that the number of public tickets available, currently stands at 135000, would stay the same. The Somerset music festival attracts some of the top names in the music industry as well as past acts include U2, Beyonce and Rolling Stones.

Nigel Taylor, the Councillor, stated that the council had worked very closely with the festival organizers to ensure that this is one of the best-run festivals in the world. While Mendip District Council stated that some issues  that have been raised have been satisfied and withdrawb by the deadline. Therefore, the council saw no reason to offer the festival its new license for the next ten years.

Chair of the licensing board Jeannette Marsh reportedly stated that just because Glastonbury now has a license till 2024 does not mean it escapes the close scrutiny that any event this size would have.
